Abstract:

Pride and Prejudice is British critical realism writer Jane Austen’s masterpiece in the late 18th and early 19th century. The use of irony is successful in this novel, thus making the work more interesting and the characters more vivid. Irony is Austen ’s most significant feature in her novel, it is also the essence of her language art. This article will research the functions and contributions of irony in creating the characters, pushing the development of the plot and achieving the theme through the repeated use of irony in Pride and Prejudice.
