Abstract
This paper endeavors to analyze the story environment in Joseph Heller’s Catch-22 and the survival modes of the minor Characters from the prospective of existentialism. Among the various characters in this novel ,only a few of them are in high positions who control the army .Most of the characters like Milo, Yossarian, Orr, Doc Daneeka, and Nately are struggling to live in the absurd society .Living in the bottom of the bureaucrat society ,they can almost do nothing but be oppressed and tortured by the darkness .However ,the aspiration of freedom and survival in their hearts is forcing them to do something .They have different attitudes and ways to survive in such a dilemma. Some obey the destiny; some escape from the cruel society; some rebel the reality .The eventual purpose is to help people who are in the similar situation in the real world to find more rational, positive and suitable ways to get out of the dilemma.

本文从存在主义的角度，分析约瑟夫•海勒的《第二十二条军规》中的故事背景以及小人物的生存模式。小说中人物众多，仅有少部分处在上层统治阶级地位，其余的小人物在如此荒诞不羁的环境中苦苦挣扎。米洛，奥尔，尤塞林，丹尼卡医生，内特利，哈弗迈耶等人是小人物的典型代表,他们处在官僚社会的底层，一方面被黑暗的社会现实所压迫，无可奈何；另一方面在内心深处他们对自由充满渴望。在这种两难的处境中，有人顺从命运，有人逃避现实，还有人则对不公的命运积极抗争。本文旨在分析小人物们在此种状况中不同的生活态度，处事方法，以及他们各自选择的出路。小说中小人物面临的窘境并不是完全虚构的，这种进退维谷的境遇也存在于现实社会中，因而本文以期为现实生活中处于相似境地的人们提供可资借鉴的生存模式，帮助他们积极地面对自己的生活，选择适合自己的出路。
