Abstract
This paper relies on Foucault’s theory of power relations and his theory of body as the theoretical framework, and probes into the feministic vision of The Edible Woman by Margaret Atwood. Through thorough reading of The Edible Woman, it attempts to explore the conflicts between female bodies and their psychological world, Marian in particular, to reveal the awakening of women’s sense of self-realization. This paper is expounded in three parts: the first part focuses on the disciplined bodies and their submissive minds of woman in the novel; the second part discusses the rebellion of the protagonist, Marian, against the patriarchal society; based on the details and analysis in the second part, the third section further explores the awakening of women’s self-awareness, and their unremitting pursuit of the independent subjectivity.

本文以福柯的权力关系理论和身体的理论为理论支撑,将女性身体、规训和自我意识三方面相结合,通过细读文本,探讨了《可以吃的女人》中以玛丽安为代表的女性身体和内心世界的矛盾冲突,揭示女性自我意识的觉醒。论文分三部分进行了论述:第一部分以福柯的身体理论为依据,论述女性被规训的身体以及由此反映出的女性被驯服的思想。第二部分以玛丽安为例,结合文本细节,探讨了她们身体和行为上对于来自父权社会的压迫所做出的抵抗。第三部分在第二部分的基础上,进一步探讨女性思想和心理层面自我意识的觉醒以及对于作为独立主体的追求。

1 Introduction
1.1 Margaret Atwood and The Edible Woman   
Born in 1939, Ottawa, Margaret Atwood has enjoyed world popularity for her glorious literary contribution to English literature, and as an expert in poetry, novels, short stories, editing and literally review. As one of the most important writers of the English language in the international literary circle, she was honored as “the queen of Canadian literature”.

Up to now, Atwood has written thirteen novels, fifteen volumes of poetry and some works of non-fiction. In the world, she may be best known for her six powerful, feminist novels: The Edible Woman(1969), Surfacing(1972), Lady Oracle(1976), Life Before Man(1980), Bodily Harm(1981), and The Handmaid’s Tale(1985).
