Abstract

With the higher demands of English majors, it is necessary for them to be strict with themselves in second language acquisition (SLA). Viewed from the SLA, three fundamental elements are involved: input, intake and output respectively. And output as the last step plays an important role in SLA. Therefore, this thesis aims to reveal the significance of output theory and give some valuable advice in the process of SLA for English majors to use the target language accurately, fluently and authentically in a more practical sense. First of all, the author calculates a number of useful materials concerning output hypothesis and have a brief view about its definition, development and four functions. In this process, the diversity of prospects in those materials is put forward by different researchers, which acts as the theoretical guidance of this thesis. On the basis of these theories, the author is dedicated to designing questionnaire to make a survey about the English majors’ current learning situation and social needs, learning habits,teaching methods and self weakness and strengths. After the analysis of the case, several sincere advice are given to most of English majors to have a good command of the target language better in future.

摘 要

随着社会对英语专业学生的要求越来越高,英语专业学生必须在自己的二语习得方面更加努力地学习。二语习得包括三个方面,即输入,过程和输出。 而输出作为在二语习得中最后一个环节也格外的重要。该论文旨在阐明可理解性输出理论在二语习得中的重要性,同时为英语专业的学生提出一些可行性的宝贵意见。
作者首先参阅大量的有关可理解性输出假设的文献资料。在这个过程中,针对输出假设,不同学者提出了许多不同的独特见解。基于这些大量文献为理论指导,作者从一个比较新颖的角度,即英语专业学生的角度出发去探讨输出假设对二语习得的启示。其次,作者在导师的帮助和指导下,设计了一份简单的调查问卷,主要涉及四个方面的内容,英语专业学生学习的现状和社会需求,日常学习习惯,教学方法,和自我优势劣势评价。通过问卷中简单的具体数据来介绍当前英语专业学生的学习习惯与学习侧重点,并能够结合“输出假设”进行分析;最后基于以上两点为出发点探讨“输出假设”对英语二语习得的作用和启示。

1 Introduction
Language output, as a universal language phenomenon, plays an important role in the process of SLA. The ultimate goal for second language learners is to produce or utter target language fluently, accurately and automatically. Therefore, as for second language learners, how to produce target language successfully is of great importance.
