Abstract and Key Words

Abstract: Motivation is one of the important powers to promote the students’ learning, and learning motivation is always considered as an essential variable that can affect the students’ learning achievements. The studies at home and abroad indicate that motivation is the key factor which affects whether the students are successful in learning English or not. Thus, as to the English majors, it is necessary for them to cultivate and stimulate their learning motivation so as to improve their English achievements. The factors that affect the students’ learning motivation mainly consist of interest, attitude, learning atmosphere, as well as the teaching methodologies, etc. By studying the learning motivation of the English majors at College, this paper illustrates some strategies and suggestions from experts and English majors respectively to cultivate the learning motivation. By doing this, the students can be improved in learning English and raise their English efficiency.

摘要:动机是推动学生学习的重要动力之一,而学习动机经常被认为是影响学生学习成绩的重要变量。国内外研究表明,动机是英语学习成败的关键。所以作为英语专业的学生,应该积极地培养和激发自身的学习动机,从而提高自身的英语成绩。影响学生学习动机的主要因素包括兴趣、态度、学习环境及教学方法等。本文通过对大学英语专业学生学习动机的研究, 详述了专家提出的培养学习动机的策略以及笔者作为英语专业学生的一些建议。只有这样,才能改变在英语学习中的不利局面,提高英语学习效率。

1. Introduction
It is known that language acquisition is a complicated process that consists of many factors. The factors that affect the students’ learning achievements mainly consist of motivation, attitude, interest, character, intelligence, age, and so on. Motivation is probably the most often used catch-all term for explaining the success or failure of virtually any complex task.
Nowadays, more and more attention has been paid to the learning motivation in the process of second language acquisition. In the field of English teaching and learning, many researches have been done to indicate that motivation can be regarded as a predictor of language learning success and individuals who are more motivated will learn the language faster.
