Abstract

Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT) is becoming more and more popular in the field of second language acquisition and foreign language learning. The approach emphasizes that students are the main part of teaching activities. It not only advocates the principle of learning by doing but also demands the learners use the target language to carry out the communicative activities when completing the tasks. Since students become the center of the class, what is the function of textbooks in teaching of English?
The main aim of this thesis is to analyze the English textbook of Junior High Schools (take Advance with English as a case) on the basis of TBLT which is its main design concept. Based on the previous study results made by other searchers, this thesis works over the present application of TBLT relying on Advance with English in China. The thesis here explores the characteristics of Advance with English, and shows the advantages as well as the disadvantages when the teachers and students use this set of textbooks to achieve TBLT. At the same time, it offers discussions about the adjustments and improvements of Advance with English according to the findings of this thesis. To meet these research objectives, both theoretical analysis and data analysis are employed.
 The function of textbooks in teaching is very important in curriculum system; without textbooks, teaching learning process can not be organized well. Teachers can teach the material well if there is an appropriate textbook guiding the teaching learning process. Teachers and students can build and develop their communicative competence better if they use qualified textbooks which provide and support the material needed. At the same time, the teachers' modifying of Advance with English should be advocated so as to serve their special teaching contexts. Teachers should also actively embrace the advanced educational theories.

摘要

任务型教学法在二语习得和外语学习中的运用越来越普遍。此教学法强调学生是学习活动的主体。它不但强调“做中学”,更要求学习者可以在完成任务的过程中运用目标语进行交际活动。既然学生成了课堂活动的主体,那么教材在其中发挥的作用是什么呢?
本文的首要目的是在任务型教学理论框架下分析现行高中英语教材(以《牛津高中英语》为例);任务型教学理论是本教材的重要设计依据,那么教材的设计是否符合任务型教学的展开至关重要。在前人研究的基础上,本文主要以《牛津高中英语》为例,分析本教材的自身特点,特别是在任务型教学理论要求下本教材的优与劣。同时根据前人研究发现,讨论如何对本教材进行调整和优化。为了实现研究目的,本文同时采用了理论分析和数据分析。
教材在教学过程中的重要性毋庸置疑,离开了教材,教学将陷入混乱。一套科学编排的教材可以很好地指导师生的整个教学过程,当然这也要建立在师生合理利用教材的基础之上。一套好的教材应该可以提供师生所需的语言材料来提高他们的语言交际能力,完成任务型教学目标。 同时,教师也应该根据特殊的教学情境对教材(《牛津高中英语》)进行必要的调整。而作为教师,也应该积极采取最新的教学思想和理论来指导教学。
