Abstract:

This paper is aimed to discuss the importance of the approach of Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT) and research its application in middle school English classroom teaching. First of all, the paper proposes the concept of TBLT and states its theoretical basis, characteristics and basic principles. Then it further introduces the disadvantages under the traditional English language teaching pattern in the middle school. Besides, the paper also discusses the advantages of using TBLT and its three modes of application, with a related teaching example provided. Finally, some tips in regard to using this teaching method are proposed, and it is concluded that the rational use of TBLT can effectively help middle school students improve their comprehensive language ability to use the target language in meaningful contexts.

摘要:本文旨在讨论任务型教学法的重要性,并对其在初中英语课堂教学中的应用进行研究。本文首先给出任务型教学的概念,阐述任务型教学的理论基础、特点及其基本原则,接着介绍了在传统模式下初中英语教学现状及其弊端,然后继续阐述任务型教学的优势及其应用的三种模式,并选择其中一种模式给出教学实例。本文最后给出实施任务型教学法的注意事项并得出结论。在初中英语课堂教学中,合理使用任务型教学法能够有效帮助学生提高综合语言运用能力。

1. Introduction
English as a communicative tool plays an important role among countries. In China, English is a compulsory course during the compulsory education phase, aiming to develop students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating. However, with the current teaching mode and method commonly adopted, students’ abilities of listening and speaking are inferior to those of reading and writing, which cannot meet the needs of society for talents to a large degree. In a traditional English class in the middle school, most teachers use “3P” (presentation, practice and production) mode. “3P”mode is the product of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) in the 1970s. Howatt(1984)classified the CLT into two types----weak versions and strong versions. The weak version is represented by 3P mode.
