A Study in Salinger’s Nine Stories from the Perspective of Archetypal Criticism

摘要

塞林格是美国当代著名小说家，他的《九故事》体现了其对虚假无情的世界的厌恶和对真情真意的人间的追求。本文拟从原型批评理论角度解读《九故事》中各个人物与塞林格的深层联系。首先《九故事》从战争角度引起人们对战后美国士兵身体以及心理创伤的思考；其次在《九故事》中描述了随着二战后美国人民沉迷于对物质、名利的不断追求，人性产生异化，人与人之间不再有纯粹的感情的现象；最后从精神层面出发，通过反复出现的禅宗使人们得到精神的真正解放。

Abstract

J. D. Salinger is a famous contemporary American novelist. The Nine Stories presents his dislike for this false and heartless world, and the pursuit of a sincere world. This thesis aims to study the deep connections between various characters in Nine Stories and Salinger’s life experience.

Firstly, Nine Stories evokes people’s thinking on both physical and mental trauma of American soldiers. Secondly, in Nine Stories people are addicted to the pursuit of fame and wealth and humanity becomes dissimilated, so there were no longer pure feelings among people. Lastly, from the spiritual level Nine Stories leads people get the true liberation of the spirit by the understanding of the haunted Zen.
