A Study on Liu Shao-ming’s Political Acts in 1984 from the Perspective of Political Criticism_英语论文

摘要

20世纪，随着社会主义的发展和战争的爆发，西方文坛上出现不少反乌托邦作品，其中包括英国作家乔治奥威尔的代表作《一九八四》。香港译者刘绍铭，通过翻译《一九八四》，向东方读者展示其本人操纵下的西方人文主义反思。该译本于1984年在台湾皇冠出版社首次版出，其后又于1991年和2010年再版，由此可见其操纵与传播所产生的影响。

本文把刘绍铭的《一九八四》译本作为研究对象，从政治批评的角度出发，通过对比观察《一九八四》原文与译文的语言文化差异，旨在考察其意图的显身与译语文化网络的相互关系。通过阐释译者背后的政治文化因素，本文有助于指示刘绍铭翻译行为下的意识形态操纵。

Abstract

A great deal of dystopian literature appeared in western countries during the twentieth century with the development of socialism and outbreak of wars, including 1984, a magnum opus by George Orwell. Hong Kong translator Liu Shao-ming displays his manipulation of western humanism reflection to his oriental readers in his translation of the work. The version was first published by Taiwan Crown Limited in 1984, and was reprinted in 1991 and 2010, suggesting profound impact exercised by the translation and circulation.

This thesis assumes Liu’s translation of 1984 as the subject of the research. It starts from the perspective of political criticism to compare differences in language and culture between the source text and the target text. Through analysis of the context in which the translation is produced, the paper is aiming at the observation of dialectical relation between the translator’s visibility and his cultural milieu. By explaining the political and cultural reasons of his translation behavior, the thesis is helpful in clarifying his ideological manipulation behind.
