An Analysis of Conversation Implicature in Catch Me If You Can from the Perspective of Violation of Cooperative Principle_英语论文

摘要

为了能达到相同的交际目标，使交际成为成功的交际，交际者必须遵循一定的原则，即合作原则。这一原则是由美国语言学家Grice在20世纪50年代提出的。在合作原则中，有四种准则，即数量准则、质量准则、关系准则和行为准则。然而，在日常会话中，人们并不总是遵循合作原则，故意或无意地违反合作原则的一条或多条准则，从而导致会话含意的产生。本文以合作原则理论为基础，对电影中会话含义进行了分析。本文通过分析角色如何违背合作原则的准则，得出了说话者的隐含意义及其效果。

Abstract

Hebert Paul Grice, an American linguist, put forward the cooperative principle in the 1950s. He pointed out that in successful communication, the communicators must follow the cooperative principle in order to achieve the same communicative goals. In the cooperative principle, there are four kinds of maxims—the maxim of quantity, the maxim of quality, the maxim of relation and the maxim of manner. However, in daily conversation, people do not always follow the cooperative principle but instead they violate one or more maxims of the cooperative principle deliberately or unintentionally, which leads to the generation of the conversation implicature. Based on the theory of cooperative principle, this paper makes an analysis on the conversation implicature of the conversation in the film Catch Me If You Can. By analyzing how the character violates the maxims of the cooperative principle, the paper figures out the implied meanings and the effects.
