《唐顿庄园》是英国ITV电视台制作的最时尚的英国电视连续剧之一。 自首次发布以来，它就一直受到广大观众的关注。该剧展示了生活在森严的社会等级制度下英国上层阶级以及他们的仆人在生活中的各个方面。因此，这部剧是分析当时英国语言特征的一个很好的例子。

礼貌原则是指人们在收到面子威胁时利用礼貌策略维护他人面子的一种理论。我们可以通过对该剧中的对话分析，更加深入的了解这一原则和《唐顿庄园》这部剧。从而，我们不仅仅只是学习了礼貌原则，还可以将深入到日常会话中。本文拟以《唐顿庄园》为背景，利用利奇的礼貌原则理论对剧中的会话进行分析。对这部剧中处于不同语言环境中的人们在进行语言表达时采用了礼貌原则中的哪一具体准则进行了分析。
