Abstract:
 Language is related to thinking very closely. Language is a reflection of thinking while thinking is expressed through language. People in different cultures have different thinking patterns. Because of the differences between Chinese and English thinking patterns, Chinese students have difficulties in English writing. No matter in vocabulary, syntax or discourse structure, what Chinese students write does not meet English speakers’ expression habits. The thesis aims to analyze the influence of different thinking patterns on English writing and propose some suggestions on writing teaching. Chinese students should be aware of the differences between Chinese and English in writing, have a command of the cultural feature of English, cultivate the ability of English thinking and try to avoid Chinese way of thinking, then we will write in authentic English.

摘  要:
语言和思维是密不可分的。思维需要用语言表达出来,而语言所表达的就是思维的内容。来自不同文化背景的人又有着各自不同的思维方式。中西方思维方式的差异导致了中国学生由于不了解英语语言思维特点而在英语写作上陷入了困境,具体表现为在选词造句,句法结构以及篇章的组织方式上不符合英语国家人民的表达方式和习惯。本文分析了中西方思维差异对中国学生写作的影响,并提出了对英语写作教学的几点建议。中国学生只有了解中英文写作方法的不同,了解英语语言学习中词汇,句法以及语篇等方面的文化特征,克服汉语思维方式的干扰,培养英语思维能力,才能写出地道的,符合英语思维习惯的作文。

1 Introduction
To cultivate and improve English writing ability is an important part in English learning. For many Chinese students, English writing is a difficult thing which has puzzled us for a long time, even though we have a good command of grammar. We can write an article with a smooth sentence structure and no grammatical mistakes, but it is still difficult to be understood by readers whose mother tongue is English. The reason is that the structure and words used by Chinese students are not in keeping with English custom. Therefore, a good article not only requires the command of vocabulary and grammar but also decides on other elements. Robert Bander (1998), the American educator, pointed out that writing is an action of thinking. As an expression of thinking, writing must be influenced by thinking. People with different cultural background have different thinking patterns. So it seems reasonable that English native speakers can’t understand articles written by Chinese students. Therefore, if Chinese students want to write a more authentic article, we should first be acquainted with how English native speakers think, then try to avoid using Chinglish.
