Analysis on the Subtitle Translation of English Animated Films from the Perspective of Skopostheory—A Case Study of American Movie Mulan_英语论文

摘要

随着科学技术不断进步,制作动画电影的技术也越来越成熟,市场上不断涌现出各式各样的动画电影作品,加上中外文化交流不断深入,越来越多的动画电影被引进中国市场,这不仅是一种文化的交流与碰撞,更能促进我国动画电影事业以及字幕翻译的发展。动画电影是一种综合的艺术门类,其制作是源于生活却也高于生活,是将生活中的现实通过艺术的加工呈现给观众。动画电影以其大胆夸张的人物角色、精巧有趣的故事情节、引人深思的主题和形象逼真的动画制作吸引了许多儿童及成年人。由于当前仍然是美国的动画电影占主流,那么在引进英文动画电影时将英文台词汉译便成了非常重要的部分,因为翻译的质量很大程度会影响观众对作品内容、主题以及文化内涵的理解。由于受到语言文化差异的限制,消除语言文化的隔阂成为英语动画电影台词汉译的重要准则。

本文是以翻译目的论作为整篇论文以及案例分析的理论指导和理论支撑,探究经典动画电影花木兰的台词汉译的方法。“目的论三原则”是目的论的运用原则,而其中最为重要也是作为首要原则的是“目的原则”,即翻译应能在译入语情境和文化中,要符合译入语不同文化水平不同社会背景以及语言习惯的接受者对电影的期待。“目的”指的是译文的交际目的,即“译文在译人语社会文化语境中对译入语读者产生的交际功能”。连贯性指译文必须符合语内连贯的标准,译文要具有可读性和可接受性。忠实性原则指原文与译文之间应该存在语际连贯一致,译文与原文忠实的程度和形式取决于译文的目的和译者对原文的理解。诺德后来完善了该理论进一步提出了忠诚原则,即关注翻译过程中译者与原作者、客户、译文接受者等参与者之间的关系。本文通过运用“目的论三原则”分析英语动画电影台词汉译的方法,旨在揭示目的论对于英语动画台词汉译的意义,为在英语动画电影台词汉译的实践提供一定的参考,以此提高译文的质量。

Abstract

In the past few years, techniques for making animated films has been becoming more and more mature and sophisticated and the cultural exchange between China and the West has been more and more frequent. Many animated movies are introduced into domestic film market, which, not only shapes cultural integration and collision, but also boosts the development of domestic animated movies and subtitle translation. As a comprehensive art category, animated movie, whose content is from life but higher than life, processes the life reality and present the life to the audience in an artistic way. Animated movie attracts children as well as adults by its bold and exaggerated characters, excellent and interesting story plots, thought-provoking themes and realistic computer animation. Since at present American animated films dominate the animated films market, when we import English animated films, translating the English subtitles into Chinese becomes extremely significant. So the quality of the translation, to a large extent, has an effect on audiences’ comprehension towards the content, theme and culture of the films. In the limit of the differences of language and culture, eliminating cultural barriers when audiences are watching animated movies is an essential part in E-C translation of animated films.

Guided by the translation theory Skopostheory, this thesis’s goal is to study on how to choose a proper translation method and strategy for the animated film subtitle translation. The application principles of Skopostheory is the “three principles of Skopostheory”. The first principle is “skopos rule”, that is, translation should meet the communication need of target readers in their language and culture background. “Skopos” means the communication purpose.  The second rule is “coherence rule”, which should comply with the standard of intratextual coherence. The target text should be readability and acceptability. The third rule is “fidelity rule”, which requests the intertextual coherence between target and source texts. The fidelity degree and form between target and source texts depend on the skopos of the target text and the translators’ comprehension on the source text. In addition, Nord replenished the “three principles of Skopostheory” and put forward “loyalty principle” which focuses on the relationships between translator and client, target audience and source-text author. This thesis will analyse the E-C translation methods of animated movies by the “three principles of Skopostheory”, for the purpose of representing the meaning of “Skopostheory” to the E-C translation of animated films, providing the reference for the translation practice and improving the translation quality.
