文化翻译观对研究译文的翻译质量具有重要的意义。文化翻译把实现文化交流作为它的本质，强调高质量的翻译应该传达出原文的文化内涵，这有助于译文翻译质量的提高。

本文正是在文化翻译观的视角下，对托马斯•哈代的《德伯家的苔丝》张谷若译本的翻译质量进行分析。根据对苏珊·巴斯奈特的文化翻译观理论的解读，作者分析了张谷若在译本中所采用的翻译手法。张谷若在他的译本中使用了方言对译、叠词以及四字格等手法，同时在翻译中添加了丰富的注释，帮助读者消除文化障碍，领略原文的文化内涵。本文将在文化翻译观理论的指导下，探讨张谷若译本中翻译手法的优点与不足，向读者呈现文化翻译观对于评价翻译质量的现实意义，以帮助译者了解文化因素在翻译中的具体作用，提升译本的翻译质量。

Abstract

Cultural translation is of great significance to the study of E-C translation quality. Cultural translation takes the realization of cultural interaction as its essence and underscores that translations with high quality should convey cultural connotations of the original text, which is conducive to the improvement of E-C translation quality. 

This thesis aims to analyze the E-C translation quality in Zhang Guruo’s version of Tess of the D’Urbervilles written by Thomas Hardy from the perspective of cultural translation. Inspired by theoretical interpretations of Susan Bassnett’s cultural translation, the author makes analyses of the translation techniques employed in this version. Zhang Guruo adopted dialect-for-dialect translation, four-character structure as well as duplication, and simultaneously added abundant annotations in his translation, which can help readers to overcome cultural obstacles and appreciate the cultural connotation of the source text. By discussing advantages and deficiencies of Zhang Guruo's translation techniques in the light of theories of cultural translation, this thesis presents practical significance of concepts of cultural translation in evaluating E-C translation quality, aiming at helping translators understand the specific role of cultural factors in translation so as to improve their E-C translation quality.
