摘要

威廉·福克纳是美国文学史上最具影响力的作家之一，有着深厚的南方情结。他的大部分作品都以约克纳帕塔法郡为背景，讲述几个家族的兴盛沉浮史。《献给艾米丽的玫瑰》是他最负盛名的短篇小说之一，讲述了艾米丽小姐悲剧的一生。玛格丽特·阿特伍德是加拿大文学的领军人物，享有国际声誉，两度获得布克奖。《石床垫》是收录于其2014年出版的同名小说集中的一篇短篇小说,围绕出身平凡的维娜展开。尽管这两个女主人公生活的社会环境不同，出身阶级也不同，但她们都成了杀人犯。本文基于性别操演理论，分别对这两个女主人公与操演抗争的动态过程进行研究，发现她们所处的社会都以把她们塑造成没有欲求、没有自我意识的女性为目标。艾米丽为了向社会传统妥协而毒杀了恋人；而维娜杀了强奸犯，以表达自己不服从操演背后的性别不平等。
