摘要

模糊限制语是语言模糊性的表现形式之一。模糊限制语作为模糊语言家族的一员，其在各种语言中存在。最早是由美国语言学家拉科夫于 1972 年提出并开始研究的。近年来，模糊限制语在各种文体语言中的运用方面的研究取得了很大的进步。新闻英语是一种特殊的语言形式，在语言的各个层面都有其特有的特征。新闻英语中的模糊限制语正是反映了新闻报道的准确性，通过语用学理论的解释，此类模糊限制语的使用是有其特殊的语篇功能的。
该文以模糊限制语在新闻英语中的应用为研究课题。首先，作者对模糊限制语的定义及新闻英语进行了简要的介绍。接着，结合新闻的特点，作者阐述了新闻英语报道中大量存在模糊限制语的原因及其影响。然后，作者运用合作原则和礼貌原则对模糊限制语在新闻英语中的使用进行具体的语用分析。作者还重点讨论了新闻英语中模糊限制语的语用功能。最后作者指出模糊限制语在新闻英语中的存在是非常必要的，通过模糊限制往往能加强新闻报道的可靠性客观性和及时性。

Abstract

Hedge is a phenomenon of the fuzziness in language. As a member of the family of fuzzy language, hedges exist prevalently in all kinds of language. The concept was introduced and analyzed first by G. Lakoff in 1972. Since it was put forward, great progress has been made in analyzing the application of hedges in language of different styles. Journalistic English is a special form of language and has unique features at various language levels. The use of hedges in journalistic English reflects the accuracy of news reports and has particular contextual functions in the light of pragmatic theories.
This thesis take the application of hedges in journalistic English as the research topic. Firstly, the definition of hedges and features of journalistic English are briefly introduced. Then, combining hedges with the characteristic of news, the thesis analyzes the reasons why hedges use in journalistic English. Then, the auther analyizes the use of hedges in journalistic English in detail with the Cooperative Principle and the Politeness Principle. Besides, the author engages in analyzing the pragmatic functions of hedges in journalistic English. At the end of this paper, the author concludes that journalistic English not only permits the existence of hedges but also relies on it to achieve the goal of the reliability, objectivity and timeliness.
