摘要

    查尔斯•狄更斯是英国最伟大的批判现实主义作家之一，他的作品从不同侧面向人们展示了他生活的时代，揭露了资本主义社会的不公道与伪善，表达着他强烈的人道主义精神。
    本文分析了《远大前程》中主人公——匹普的性格发展与外部因素之间的关系，揭示了家庭、教育、社会文化等外部因素对个人性格的重要影响，强调了研究这个课题的重要意义。同时本文也通过补充分析当代大学生存在的问题、提出一些解决策略，使读者对作品有更好的理解，并更清楚的看到狄更斯作品中批判现实主义的强大力量。
全文共分五大部分：第一章是介绍部分，简要介绍本文的写作内容和思路，狄更斯生平及作家生活的维多利亚时代。第二章是分析《远大前程》中的外部环境因素。目的是归结出影响皮普性格发展的外部因素，并指出其影响。找到因素后，第三章侧重介绍社会环境与主人公性格发展的关系。得出的结论是两者密切相关，主人公的性格发展离不开外部环境因素的影响。在分析完皮普性格的形成后，第四章开始联系实际，探讨了当代大学生存在的一些问题，并指出该如何应对。
最后一章为结论，即性格的发展与社会环境是紧密相连的，面对生活，一个人不应抱有幻想，而应踏实冷静，迎接挑战。

ABSTRACT

Charles Dickens is one of the greatest British realistic novelists. Through his numerous works, he presented to the readers different aspects of the times he lived in and explored the unfairness and hypocrisy of the capitalist society. Meanwhile, he strongly expressed his humanity, especially, his deep concern and sympathy towards the poor.
This thesis analyzes the relationship between external factors and the development of Pip's character in Dickens's Great Expectations. This thesis also analyzes the problems that nowadays college students met and gives several solutions in order to achieve a better understanding of this novel as well as Charles Dickens's great power in the criticism of society.
This thesis includes five chapters. Chapter one is a brief introduction to this thesis, the life and career of Charles Dickens as well as the Victorian Age. Chapter Two discusses the five external factors affected on the development of Pip's character. Chapter Three focuses on the relationship between external factors and the development of Pip's character. The thesis comes to a conclusion that they are closely connected and cannot be separated.
The fourth chapter discusses the cause of nowadays college students’ problem and then tries to give some suggestions on how to deal with them.
The last chapter concludes that the development of a person's character was greatly influenced by external factors. Facing the challenges in life, one should keep calm and get rid of illusions.
