Abstract:

This paper probes into the social reasons for sexism against women in English language, analyses the sexism phenomena from the angle of word formation, word meaning and feminine terms with examples in English vocabulary, and studies the main causes of sexism from the perspective of policy, economy, culture, education and social status. Countermeasures are put forward at last in the fight against gender discrimination in English vocabulary.

本文探析了英语语言中性别歧视的社会原因，并通过英语词汇的实例从构词、词义和针对女性的女性用语三个角度分析了英语词汇中的性别歧视现象，并从政治经济、文化教育、社会地位等方面探寻造成语言的性别歧视的原因，最后提出了规避英语词汇中的性别歧视的对策。

1. Introduction
As a carrier of culture, language is inevitable product in a certain stage of social development. Language often comprehensively and centrally reflects customs and values of a society. Gender inequality in human society has been difficult to eradicate for thousand years, especially in male-dominated society. And this discrimination against women is bound to be reflected in the language. Although women have gained greater liberation in Britain and other developed countries where concept of liberty, equality, fraternity has long been widely known, the social status, economic status and family status of women still can not be compared with men. Sexist abound in the English language, and this is an embodiment about particular traditional social values and ethnic way of thinking in English. The language which expresses the sexism in formation and meaning called sexist language, sexism which reflects on language forms the language sexism.
