Abstract

In recent years, Chinese international influence has become stronger, and more and more foreigners desire to know about China. In the process of introducing Chinese culture to the outside world, catchwords have been playing an important role. As a mirror of Chinese politics, economy, culture and people’s livelihood, catchwords attract high attention. Besides, translation of Chinese catchwords has become a hot topic for research.
This paper starts from the definition of Chinese catchwords, analyzes their formation and obvious language features. By adopting Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory, this paper attempts to discuss the principles for translators to follow, and put forward some effective translation methods for this translation practice.

摘  要

近年来,中国国际化进程日益加快,国际影响力也逐渐增强,越来越多的外国人想要了解中国。在中国文化逐渐走出去的过程中,流行语扮演了重要角色。作为中国政治,经济,文化和人民生活的一面镜子,流行语获得了高度关注。如何翻译流行语成为一个重要的课题。
本文从流行语入手,分析了其主要构成方式及显著的语言特色,结合奈达的功能对等翻译理论,探讨了流行语的翻译原则,并尝试将上述理论运用于这一翻译实践,提出了几种行之有效的翻译方法。

I. Introduction
With the rapid development of economy happened in China, an increasing number of foreigners become willing to learn more about Chinese culture and social situation. Catchwords, a fashionable form of expression, take up an essential position as a mirror of the politics, economy, culture and people’s livelihood under this situation. Because of the great impact, catchwords have caused widespread concern all over the world nowadays.
