Abstract

The War of Scottish Independence is of great significance in the history of Scotland, with well-known national heroes William Wallace and Robert the Bruce coming to the fore. Faced with the invasion of England, the intransigent Scottish people won this war at last despite various unfavorable situations. Their spirit continues to inspire the Scottish people today.
    The 1995 movie Brave Heart, which won five Academy Awards, is an adaptation based on that period. The movie is based mainly on the life of William Wallace, who bravely resisted against the persecution of the English ruler and was cruelly executed. RobertⅠ, the King of Scotland, finally led the Scottish win the independence of Scotland in 1328. By giving a vivid description of the wars and the characters, the movie Brave Heart has fused the national spirit of Scotland in its scenes, which was the key to the victory of Scottish independence. The national spirit of Scotland – pursuit of freedom, the spirit of unyielding, the spirit of love and defense for the homeland – can be found in every part of the movie. It is such national spirit that is responsible for the victory of the War of Scottish Independence and Scotland today.
    The author of this paper analyzes the national spirit of Scotland shown in this movie and in contemporary Scottish society. Chapter one introduces the historical background of the movie in detail; Chapter two analyzes the national spirit of Scotland reflected in the movie; Chapter three analyzes the influence of the national spirit on Scotland today.

苏格兰独立战争是苏格兰历史上非常具有代表性的一个篇章，涌现出了著名民族英雄威廉•华莱士和罗伯特•布鲁斯。面对英格兰的入侵，面对各种不利形势，苏格兰人民拒不妥协最终赢得了这场战争。他们的这种精神继续激励着今天的苏格兰人。
    获得五项奥斯卡大奖的1995年电影《勇敢的心》讲述的便是这一段历史，电影描写了民族英雄威廉•华莱士英勇抵抗英格兰统治者的压迫但遭残酷处决。1328年苏格兰国王罗伯特一世终于带领苏格兰人民赢得独立。通过对战争和人物的细腻刻画，电影《勇敢的心》将苏格兰独立的关键因素民族精神融入到了其场景中。电影里处处展现了苏格兰人民追求自由、不屈不挠、爱国卫国的民族精神，正是这样的民族精神成就了苏格兰独立战争的胜利和今天的苏格兰。
    笔者在此论文中分析苏格兰民族精神在这部电影中和在当代社会的表现。论文第一章详细介绍电影的历史背景；第二章分析电影中体现的苏格兰民族精神；第三章分析苏格兰民族精神对当今苏格兰的影响。
