Abstract

The first McDonald’s was established in California in 1937, and till now it has more than 30,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries worldwide. We can’t deny that McDonald’s is the king of the fast food restaurants, and now it is the largest quick service restaurant organization in the world. This paper begins with a brief introduction to the success of McDonald’s, then makes a detailed analysis of the reasons of its success, and thereby further reveals the American culture behind it. We can make a conclusion that McDonald’s success is not just a business legend, but a kind of cultured phenomenon.

摘 要

第一家麦当劳餐厅于1937年在加利福尼亚诞生。现如今,它有30000家连锁店遍布在全世界百余个国家。不可否认,现在的麦当劳可以说是当仁不让的快餐霸主。至今对其成功的原因不同的人有不同的研究。本文先就麦当劳的成功做了个简单的说明,然后立足于麦当劳这个企业运行本身,研究它成功的原因;接着,透过麦当劳的成功分析隐藏在它背后的美国饮食文化。可以说,麦当劳的成功不仅仅只是一个商界传奇,更是一个文化现象。

1. Introduction
    Nowadays American fast food has swept across the world. Among all the fast food brands, McDonald’s is the most successful, for it is the leading global foodservice retailer with more than 32,000 local restaurants serving more than 68 million people in 119 countries each day. McDonald’s, began in 1940, with a restaurant opened by Brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald in San Bernardino, California, and is famous for its trademark “M”.
    I remember for the time when I was only a little child, I liked fast food very much, especially McDonald’s most, for both its delicious taste and also the toys with the Happy Meals. Without exaggeration, during my childhood, McDonald’s gave me the most happiness. Very coincidentally, last year, it was so lucky that I could have the chance to go to America to spend four months working in McDonald’s.
