摘  要

模糊语言作为语言固有的属性普遍存在于英语的各个文体中，也包括英语新闻。由于新闻的变化性和实效性，模糊语的使用是非常重要的，经济新闻也是如此。尽管模糊语早已在日常交流中被应用，但是直到扎德于1965年提出了模糊集合论，对于模糊语的研究才开始进入人们的视线。当前国内外对于模糊语的研究多数集中讨论的是模糊语的语言特点，而对于它的应用尤其是在新闻中的运用以及其功能则探究较少。本文作者从中国日报等著名报纸和新闻网站收集了一些英语经济新闻报道实例，从模糊语的概念和分类出发，对英语经济新闻中模糊语言的特点和运用进行了分析，指出了其增强可信度，节省时间，自我保护，避免负面效果的作用。希望能有助于新闻工作者更恰当地使用模糊语写作报道，并帮助读者更好地理解记者在新闻报道中使用模糊的目的，从而促进英语新闻中模糊语言的恰当使用。

Abstract

As the inherent attributes in language, vagueness is wide used in various English styles, including English news. Because of the variability and pragmaticality of news, the use of vague language is very important, especially in economic news. Although vague language is already used in daily communication, it wasn’t until Zadeh put forward the fuzzy set theory in 1965; the study of vague language began to get attention. Recently, researches at home and abroad on the study of vague language are mostly focus on the characteristics of the vague language, not on its application, especially the application and its pragmatic functions in the English news. The authors collected some English economic news items from well-known newspapers such as China Daily and others as well as some news websites and started from the concept and classification of vague language, analyzed the characteristics and pragmatic functions of vague language, pointed out that the function of vague language in English economic news are: to increase credibility, to protect the reporters, to save time, and to minimize the negative effect. It is hoped that this article can help journalists to use vague language more appropriately and to help readers to have a better understanding of reporters’ intentions to use the vague language which would help to promote the vague language to be used more appropriately in English news.
