《推销员之死》是美国杰出剧作家亚瑟米勒的代表作，作者用完全现实主义的手法刻画了一系列贴近生活的人物形象。这是一出典型的现代悲剧，它粉碎了美国社会的“人人可以成功”的神话，向观众呈现了一个普通美国人梦想的破灭，走头无路，走上自杀之路的悲剧故事。分析了“美国梦”的实质，批判了“美国梦”虚假的根源。从主人公威力.罗曼“美国梦”破灭而导致他自杀的根源：一是他自身性格上的弱点所导致的；二是由美国社会对人性的压制所导致的。展示了主人公威力.罗曼渴望成功和发财，但是后来梦想破灭，并走上了自杀的道路。他和美国社会中的绝大多数人一样，都过着平凡的生活，但也渴望发财，成功，飞黄腾达。这个例子就是当时美国社会的写照，说明当时美国人心中的“美国梦”只是虚幻的，无法实现的。这对依然做着美国梦的当代青年人有着一定的借鉴意义。

Abstract

Arthur Miller is a great playwright in America. Death of a Salesman is his representative opus. Arthur describes a lot of vivid characters close to the real existence. It is a representative tragedy in modern times. Also this play ruins the myth that everyone may be successful in American society. It tells us a tragedy of a normal American. He fails in his American Dream and commits suicide in the end. Through analyzing the hypocritical nature of American Dream and criticizing the essence of Willy’ American Dream, the main focus is on the discussion of Willy’s personality weaknesses and American society suppression of the human nature. Willy Loman desires to be successful and rich, but he fails and commits suicide in the end. He is just one of the most normal Americans. They all desire to be more successful and richer. This is the American society at that time. It all says the American Dream is unreal and can not come true. It brings an enormously enlightening story to the youth people who still believe in the American Dream.

Arthur Miller is the most famous playwright after World War II. Death of a Salesman is his most famous work. He earns a lot of famous awards .This opus make a great sensation in America and get much glory in the Europe later. Miller condemns the mechanism of the American business and the plight of Willy Lowman. Willy Lowman is just a very normal man of American. Miller expresses the false of American Dream. The disillusionment of American dream is the most unreal in the deep American soul. This dream keeps long and the disillusionment is the unhealthy of American economy.
