Abstract

    Toni Morrison is one of the most distinguished contemporary novelists in the history of American literature of the 20th century. In 1993 she got the Nobel Prize in Literature, she is the sole black female achieves the award. Her writing style is simple and straightforward as Hemingway’s writing style, her works are influenced by Latin American magic realism that forming her unique writing style, that makes her works attract readers to read in a global scale. As for her first novel, The Bluest Eye, which got less attention at the beginning, but it plays an important role in her writing career. Because it contains many factors of racism which about African American’s life view and their fundamental values under dominate white culture. Therefore in this thesis the writer will try to analyze the Origin of Pecola’s Tragedy from the racial discrimination. In this way it would be easy to know how Toni Morrison reveals the aggression of the white culture and the fact that the black become victims under the white culture, and help readers to appreciate its plots and obtain a better understanding of this novel.

摘 要

托尼莫里森是20世纪美国文学史上最杰出的当代小说家之一。她于1993年获得诺贝尔文学奖并且是史上唯一一位获此殊荣的黑人女作家。她的作品风格简洁明快具有海明威的风格,而且受到拉美魔幻现实主义的影响这些因素形成了她独特的写作风格.《最蓝的眼睛》作为她的第一本小说在开始并没有获得太多的关注,但是它在莫里森写作生涯中扮演了很重要的角色。因为它包含了很多反映美国黑人在白人文化主导下的生活观和基本价值观的种族歧视的因素。所以本论文作者从种族歧视角度分析女主角佩克拉的悲剧根源,进而了解托尼莫里森笔下的黑人如何在白人文化主导下变成受害者,帮助读者更好的欣赏小说的故事情节以及进一步了解这部小说。

1 Introduction
Toni Morrison is one of the most distinguished contemporary novelists in the history of American literature of the 20th century. In 1993, Toni Morrison became the first black female Writer who won the Nobel Prize in Literature. Her novels The Bluest Eye, Song of Solomon, and Beloved bring lots of honor to her, especially the last one, it won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1988 and got Nobel Prize in Literature in 1993. In 2001 Ladies' Home Journal named her as one of "The 30 Most Powerful Women in America". Many readers are subdued by her brilliant works which are well known by their epic themes, vivid dialogue, and richly detailed African American characters on a global scale. Then the studies based on her works became very hot in American modern literature research.
