1. Introduction
1.1    Oscar Wilde
Oscar Wilde, the celebrated Irish-born playwright, and poet, enjoyed equal popularity with George Bernard Shaw in 19th century. He was the chief proponent of the aesthetic movement, based on the principle of “Art for Art’s Sake”. Oscar Wilde was born in Dublin to unconventional parents. His mother was a poet and journalist. Wilde's father was Sir William Wilde, an Irish antiquarian, gifted writer, and specialist in diseases of the eye and ear. Wilde studied at Portora Royal School, Trinity College, and Magdalen College. Already at the age of 13, Wilde's tastes in clothes were dandy's. "The flannel shirts you sent in the hamper are both Willie's, mine are one quite scarlet and the other lilac but it is too hot to wear them yet," he wrote in a letter to his mother. His tastes laid the foundation of his own aestheticism in the future days.
In 1892 Wilde began an intimate friendship with Lord Alfred Douglas. As the two grew closer, family and friends urged Wilde and Douglas to lessen their contact. Douglas’s father, the Marquess of Queensberry often intervened in their friendship. Wilde sued Queensberry for criminal libel because of his endless insults. However Wilde was sentenced to jail. He was imprisoned in Pentonville, Wandsworth and Reading Prisons, and the poor food, manual labor and harsh conditions greatly weakened his health. He quickly began suffering from hunger disease.
