Abstract

In recent years, with the development and popularity of movie art, more and more literary works are adapted to movies. It is commonly admitted that literature is the carrier of elite culture, while the movie is the carrier of mass culture. As one form of literature, novel is very different from movies. Therefore, it will inevitably encounter creative treason in the process of adaptation from novel to movie.
This paper aims to explore the creative treason reflected from adaptation of novel to movie, taking Cold Mountain and The Scarlet Letter as examples. This paper consists of four parts. It firstly deals with the artistic characteristics of novel and movie, as well as the relevance between them. In the second part, it discusses the creative treason in literary theme from adaptation of Cold Mountain and The Scarlet Letter: content of story, characterization and thematic meaning. Following by the second part, the third part makes an analysis of the creative treason in narrative methods, including narrative voices, narrative structure and narrative circumstance. The fourth part mainly explores the reasons for these creative treasons caused from adaptation of novel to movie, including different narrative perspective between novel and movie, difference between original author and adaptor, as well as different receiver. From these analysis it can be seen the creative treason from adaptation of novel to movie. The different narrative perspectives between novel and movie leads to the creative treason in narrative methods. In addition, the original author, adapter and receiver also play a pivotal role in adaptation. Their different artistic pursuits and aesthetic tastes result in the unavoidable creative treason in theme.

摘  要

近年来,随着电影艺术的发展与流行,越来越多的文学作品被改编成电影。文学可以说是精英文化的载体,而电影则是大众文化的载体。小说是文学作品的其中一种,它和电影是两种不同的艺术形式。因此,在小说到电影的改编过程中,难免会遇到创造性背叛。
本文试图以《冷山》和《红字》为例分析从小说到电影改编的创造性背叛。本文共有四个部分。第一部分对小说和电影的艺术特点分别进行了介绍,以及两者之间的关联。第二部分以《冷山》和《红字》为例,从三个方面讨论了从小说到电影的改编对文学主题的创造性背叛:故事内容、人物塑造和主题意义。第三部分分析了小说到电影的改编对叙事手段的创造性背叛,包括叙事声音、叙事结构和叙事情境。第四部分主要从三个方面探讨了产生这些创造性背叛的原因:小说和电影间的不同叙事视角,原著作者和改编者的差异,以及不同的受众。从这些分析中可以看出从小说到电影改编的创造性背叛。小说和电影的不同叙事视角导致了叙事手段的创造性背叛。另外,原著作者、改编者和受众也对改编发挥着重要作用。他们不同的艺术追求和审美趣味导致了不可避免的主题的创造性背叛。
