摘要

   本论文主要分析的是小说中主人公弗雷德里克.亨利和凯瑟琳.巴克利的性格。《永别了，武器》是作者在第一次世界大战的背景下写的小说，通过分析小说中两个主人公的性格，以及两个人关系的发展情况，得出战争和爱情是影响两个人性格的因素，同时得出小说悲剧结尾的原因。此外，通过分析主人公的性格，也表达出了小说中战争对人肉体和心灵创伤之深的主题。

Abstract

This paper mainly concentrates on an analysis of the main characters in the novel, Frederic Henry and Catherine Barkley. A Farewell To Arms was written at the background of The First World War, through analyzing characters of two main protagonists and the development of their relationship, reaching that war and love are two factors influencing their characters ,meanwhile , arriving at the reasons leading the tragic end. Furthermore ,it also expresses the theme that war destroyed people mentally and physically.
