A Comparative Study of Different Views of Marriage between Desperate Housewives and Dwelling Narrowness

摘要

随着科技的快速发展和社会的不断进步，各国在经济，政治，文化等各个领域的交流也不断地加深。中西方的文化在碰撞中不断融合，婚姻作为生活的必不可少的组成部分，也成为跨文化交流的重要话题。婚姻是人类最优美的乐章之一，中国有东方文化的深刻烙印，而美国则融合了西方文化的精髓，由于中美两国不同的历史文化背景，导致了彼此的婚姻价值观存在很大的差异。在西方，从10世纪开始的“女权运动”以及“性解放”运动，很大程度上提高了女性的社会地位，因此形成了男女相对平等的婚姻观。对于中国人而言,我们受儒家思想的影响比较大，女性的贞操观念比较强烈。本文从《蜗居》和《绝望主妇》进行个案研究，从择偶标准，对待婚姻的态度，婚礼形式，离婚态度等方面来分析中美婚姻观的差异.

Abstract

With the rapid development of science and technology and the continuous progress of society, many countries in the world have been deepening communication in the economic, cultural, political and other fields.And the once conflicting Chinese and Western cultures are continuously integrated. Marriage as an essential part of life has become an significant topic of intercultural communication. And there is no doubt that it is one of the most beautiful human movements.China is a typical oriental cultural representative, while the United States is the fusion of western cultures.The two countries have different marriage values because of their different cultural and historical backgrounds. From the tenth Century, the Feminist Movement and the Sexual Liberation Movement have greatly improved the social status of women in the West. In China, we are deeply influenced by Confucianism. This paper makes a case study of “Dwelling Narrowness’’ and “Desperate Housewives’’, and analyzes the differences between Chinese and American views of marriage from the aspects of spouse selection criteria, attitudes towards marriage, wedding ceremonies, and divorce attitudes.
