摘要
  
在国际商务交际中委婉语的使用是一种普遍现象,是商务交际取得成功的重要手段和策略,也是交际双方建立长期商务关系的重要途径。本文依据语用学的礼貌原则,结合国际商务沟通实例,分四方面对委婉语在商务交际中的语用功能进行了阐述。第一,涉及贬损内容时,为了保护读者的自我意识,避免使用“你”为主语;第二,使用被动语态及无人称表达法避免有归咎他人之嫌;第三,强调积极的一面与作用,减少负面影响;第四,当涉及到跨文化交际时,使用委婉语技能,让对方愿意接受。从而来证明委婉语这一语言运用策略在商务交际中的重要作用。

Abstract

    Euphemism is widely used in international business communication, and it is an important tool and strategy of success. Besides, it is an important way to build long- term business relationship between both parties. This thesis aims to find out the pragmatic function and usages of the euphemism in business communication from the aspects of the Politeness Principle. They are as follows. Firstly, when derogatory content is involved, we should avoid “you” as the subject, in order to protect the self-consciousness of the reader. Secondly, when accusations content is involved, we should use passive voice and impersonal expression to avoid accusations of the reader. Thirdly, when denial and negative information is involved, we should emphasize the positive side and reduce the negative impact. Finally yet importantly, when it comes to cross-cultural communication, we can use tactful skills to let the other party accepts willingly. The above usages can help us to know more about the importance of euphemism in international business communication, so that we can achieve success.

1. Introduction

After twenty-first Century, the international commercial exchange becomes more and more frequent, and as a result, business communication has entered a new stage of development and showed a trend of internationalization. In other words, business communication is a bridge for people to achieve cooperation, and it is inseparable from language communicative activities. In international business communication, only when the speaker masters the strategy of communication can he or she realize the target smoothly. Undeniably, when improper or rude words are used, communicative failure comes. Since the environment ,time and occasion of the speaker are different, sometimes the other side is difficult to accept even words are right. If euphemism is used in the speech, it can encode the inappropriate and rude words to polite and implicit words, for politeness is the premise to build a good relationship . Therefore, the research and study on the pragmatic functions of euphemism in international business communication have great practical value for establishing a good business relationship.
