摘  要

委婉表达是一种普遍的却极其重要的语言和文化现象,也是一种交际策略,在交流中被广泛地应用着,尤其在商务谈判中发挥着重要的作用。运用委婉语的恰当与否直接影响了谈判过程中双方交流的流畅性和谈判的成功率。从古至今,研究人员对商务谈判中的委婉语进行了相应的了解与研究,然而商务谈判人员在与外商进行实质性谈判时对委婉语的掌握与使用却仍是差强人意。因此,本文在以刘纯豹为代表的国内专家和以Rawson为主的国外研究团队的研究基础上,全面剖析委婉语的生成及其在商务谈判中的主要功能,并从语法学角度着手,结合在商务谈判中常用的例子对委婉语的应用进行详细的分析,从而帮助谈判人员减少语言失误及矛盾冲突,提高语言技巧和谈判效率,进而维系双方友好的交际关系,使谈判双方获得双赢的结局。

Abstract

Euphemism is a common but extremely important language and cultural phenomenon in communication. It is also a kind of communicative strategy. Euphemism, which has been widely used in oral and written communication, especially plays a significant part in the business negotiations. Whether using it in a proper way or not, in some extent, directly affects the fluency of communication between negotiators and the success rate of negotiation. From the past to the present, many researchers have made some studies about the application of euphemism from different point of view. However, the understanding and usage of euphemism are still barely unsatisfactory in business negotiations. Therefore, this thesis, by drawing upon the previous studies and insights which are made by the domestic experts such as Liu Chunbao and the foreign research specialists such as Rawson, analyzes the formation of euphemisms and its main function in the international business negotiations, and thus proposes the detailed analysis of the application of euphemism with common examples in the international business negotiations through syntactic. As a result, it aims at helping to decrease the language mistakes and the conflict between both sides during the business negotiations, improve the language technique between negotiators and the efficiency of negotiation, and thus keep a friendly relationship between both sides, and make them to get “win-win”.

1 Introduction
With the rapid development of the globalization of economy, international trade and business is becoming increasingly larger and larger. Business English correspondence, as one of the main ways of communication in international trade, is becoming more and more important, which leads to more and more scholars arousing their interest in finding ways to make successful business communication. For the scholars and researchers, the most attractive part in business English is the euphemistic expressions.
    Euphemism is a universal language phenomenon existing in nearly all languages. It is an important communicative manner that helps to bring about harmonious human relationship. Therefore euphemism has been a hot topic since it was created, especially to sociolinguists. The western and domestic scholars have provided valuable study in the field of semantics, pragmatics, cognitive linguistics and rhetoric, etc. However, the specific application of euphemism has been rarely mentioned, especially in international business negotiation.
