摘要

《怪物史瑞克》无疑是一部非常成功的影片，它不仅有着不俗的票房收入，还获得了第74届奥斯卡最佳动画长片奖。影片《怪物史瑞克》的成功与它鲜明的特色是分不开的。这种特色一方面体现在该片对于传统动画的解构手法，即颠覆了传统童话的角色类型，给人以一种全新的感受，又继承了传统童话的叙事手法和故事情节，是经典童话叙事模式的延伸。这部影片即颠覆了传统的好莱坞模式，又满足了观众对于童话故事大团圆结局的渴望。影片对传统人物设定和情节的改变，也推翻了观众对于传统王子和公主的固有看法。
本文分析了《怪物史瑞克》中隐藏于故事背后的文化特征。美国是一个年轻的国家，它的文化具有包容性，幽默性和个人英雄主义。美国动画电影是世界电影业中一个非常具有影响力、但又非常独特的组成部分，正越来越强的影响着全球文化的发展方向。

ABSTRACT

The cartoon film Shrek, released in the year 2001, has been a great success and has won the 74th Oscar Award in 2002. Its success can be traced back to its distinctive features. On one hand, it subverts our expectation of the characters in classic fairy tales by adding some post-modernist elements. While on the other hand, the plots and narration of this film are inherited from the Hollywood style, which includes the happy ending with the hero and heroine living “happily ever after”. The subversion of the role and plot has also changed the audience’s mind to the classic prince and princess.
The thesis analyses the characteristics covered by the story in Shrek. America is a young country. It includes the inclusiveness, humor and heroism. The animated film in America is an influenced and special part of the world. It influences the developmental direction of the global culture increasingly.

1    Introduction
1.1The background of Shrek
In 2001, an ogre named Shrek came from a distant swamp, created a green whirlwind in Hollywood. At the last, Shrek provided 200-million dollars’ box-office returns. It was the second movie of DreamWorks and the fourth of Hollywood that had made such achievement. The movies that gained 200-million dollars box-office returns before Shrek were The Lion King, Aladdin and Toy Story 2, which were presented by Walt Disney Pictures. The unique plot and roles were the most important reason of its success. Just in his appearances, the ogre living in the swamp totally subverted the traditional roles’ character of Hollywood.
1.2 The main contents of Shrek
Long time ago, there was an ogre named Shrek lived in a distant swamp and had an easy life. One day, his quiet life had been broken by some crashers. They were a weak-eyed mouse, a bad wolf and three homeless pigs, who had escaped from the fairy tale kingdom. For his peaceful life and getting them out of the swamp, Shrek decided to meet the Lord Farquaad with a talking donkey.
