ABSTRACT

Along with the development of society and economy, people’s higher demands for entertainment and with constant changes in people’s conceptions on tourism, people tend to prefer a new way to travel — DIY tour, which has appeared in recent years, greatly accepted by and popular among Chinese college students. This paper studies Chinese college students’ DIY tour from the perspective of mass culture, analyzing the four characteristics that mass culture and Chinese college students’ DIY tour share in common: being modern, commercial, secular and recreational. This paper intends to arrive at a conclusion that Chinese college students’ DIY tour actually is a mirror of mass culture and to make a preliminary study on the cultural values of Chinese college students’ DIY tour. This analysis of Chinese college students’ DIY tour from a totally new angle may be helpful for readers to have a better understanding of DIY tour, especially its cultural values.

摘  要  

随着社会与经济的发展,人们对休闲娱乐要求的提高及旅游观念的不断变化,近几年兴起的自助游越来越成为人们热衷的旅游方式,特别受到了我国大学生的青睐。本文将从大众文化的视角来研究我国大学生自助游,比较大众文化和我国大学生自助游共有的四个特性:现代性、商业性、世俗性和娱乐性,从而得出我国大学生自助游其实是大众文化的一面镜子的结论,并对我国大学生自助游的文化内涵进行初步的探讨。希望本文能够帮助读者更好地理解自助游,特别是让我国大学生了解其独特的文化价值。

Chapter One    Introduction 
Along with the development of economy, technology and society, people have higher demands for their entertainment in their leisure time. In recent years, travel has become an excellent and popular option for Chinese people during their spare time, and in fact, travel has changed from luxury goods to necessities. There is no denying that tourism consumption has become an indispensable part of Chinese people’s life. However, traditional travel like package tour has been gradually losing their enchantment, and DIY tour, instead, has attracted people’s attention, especially Chinese college students’.
