ABSTRACT

Sport is a kind of social consciousness which is based on different geographical environments, the local life and production relations. Sports enrich the human nature of showing the competitive instincts. Due to different geographical environments, social systems, life styles and many other factors, there exist many differences between Chinese and western sports cultures. It is these differences that make sports culture bring out the splendor of the charming color. Based on the study of the origination, differences and the reasons between Chinese and western football cultures, the author explores the differences between Chinese and western sports cultures in an attempt to promote communication and understanding between Chinese and western cultures.

摘  要

体育是一种社会意识的表现，它脱胎于不同的地域环境以及当地的社会生活与生产关系。体育浓缩了人类的天性，表现出人的竞争“本能”。由于地理环境、社会制度、生活方式等诸多因素的影响，中西体育文化表现出诸多不同之处，正是这些差异，使体育文化呈现出异彩纷呈的迷人色彩。本研究通过对中西方足球文化的起源、差异的比较以及对其成因的分析，以探索中西方体育文化的异同，从而促进中西方文化之间的交流和理解。

Chapter One    Introduction
1.1 Background Information
Sport is a kind of culture form and social culture activity created by human society. After meeting the basic requirements of material life, sports have become independent from gathering, hunting, and material needs of life and production of manual labor. When sports are regarded as a kind of form and means of exploiting potentialities and promoting the development of body and mind purposely and selectively, sports have the meaning of sports. It is visible that sport itself is a cultural system. It includes many cultural factors, such as language and symbols, rules and regulations, knowledge and technology, behavior and value, the concept of sports and sports spirit, etc. Therefore, sports can be called sports culture which serves as a cultural form of sports. It refers to the social, political, economic and cultural background. The study of the relationship between sports and culture, the study of sports culture in the social culture system, especially the national psychological structure in sports, way of thinking and value system as well as the law of development are all included.
