Abstract: With the rapid development of society, the communication between countries is becoming closer and closer. Cross-cultural communication activities occur more frequently. One of the most important elements may be appreciation and respect for cultural differences during communication. In the past several decades, people tend to adopt verbal communication to exchange ideas and opinions. However, in recent years, studies show that nonverbal communication is playing an essential role in human communication that verbal language can’t do. Thus it is necessary and essential to focus on the research of nonverbal communication and cultural differences.
Based on nonverbal communication, the author attempts to compare the differences of nonverbal communication between Chinese and English from four aspects, including body language, environment language, object language, paralanguage. Through the analysis of differences, some cultural reasons for differences are explored, including cultural differences in value and modes of thinking. Finally, some effective suggestions are put forward, with the aim of helping people employ nonverbal behaviors effectively and correctly in the cross-cultural communication.

摘  要：随着社会的快速发展,国家之间的交流变得日益密切。跨文化交际活动变得日趋频繁，对文化的理解和尊重是在交际过程中最重要的元素之一。在过去的几十年中,人们倾向于使用言语交际来交换各自的想法和意见。然而,在最近几年,研究发现非言语交际在人类交际中扮演着至关重要的角色,这是言语交际所不能替代的。因此，关注非言语交际和文化差异的研究是至关重要的。
    在非语言交际的基础上,作者尝试从四个方面来比较英汉非言语交际的差异，包括身体语言、环境语言、目标语言和副语言。通过差异分析，发现了一些导致文化差异的原因，包括价值观和思维方式的差异。最后，通过这些原因分析，作者提出一些有效的建议，旨在帮助人们在跨文化交际中更加有效地和正确地使用非言语交际。

Human communication is made up of verbal communication and nonverbal communication. Modern Linguistics show that in the process of face-to-face communication, the social content of information occupied linguistic performance was only 35%. And the rest were passed through the nonverbal behavior. From this, it can be seen that nonverbal communication is quite widespread.
In addition, Helabiesi, the psychologists, had put forward the formula: total information transmission effects are equivalent to 7% of the language plus 38% of speed and tone of the language plus 55% of facial expressions and movements. It can be concluded that body language is playing an important role in the communication. However, national people don't pay attention to their own cultural nonverbal behavior. And in the meanwhile, they are so sensitive to other cultural nonverbal behaviors. As a result, it often occurs to the understanding deviation. And even more, it can lead to culture shock.
