摘  要

语言是沟通的基础,在全球一体化的趋势下商务英语交往活动数量正逐步增多,而如何做到有效沟通则成为实现商务英语交往的重要基础,而在此之中礼貌原则扮演着重要角色。礼貌是一种社会现象,是人类社会文明的标志之一,存在于各种不同的社会与文化中。礼貌原则是进行有效商务沟通不可或缺的一种原则。本文采用文献资料法、理论分析以及对比研究等方法从杰弗里·利奇等人的理论出发分析礼貌原则在商务英语交往中的适用性以及重要性。本文采用的理论来自格林斯的“合作原则”以及布朗&莱文森在“合作原则”基础上提出的“面子管理理论”,并以此分析礼貌原则在商务英语交往中的适用性以及重要性。通过理论研究和事例分析发现,礼貌原则在一定程度上能够促进商务英语交往。

Abstract

Language is the basis of communication. Business English communication activities under the globalization trend are gradually on the increase, and how to communicate effectively has become an important basis for achieving business English communication while politeness principles have played an important role here. Politeness is a sort of social phenomenon that is a hallmark of human civilization as well, which can be found in a variety of different societies and cultures. Politeness principle is a principle of effective business communication. In the paper, the main methodologies are documentary method, theory study and contrast analysis. From the analysis on the theories of Geoffrey Leech, Grice, Brown&Levinson etc., politeness principle can be viewed as a feasible and important principle to be applied in the Business English communication activities. The theory examples used in this paper come from the “Cooperative Principle” of Grice and “Face Management View” of Brown&Levinson. According to the theories and examples analyses, it can be concluded that, politeness principle are urgently needed and can be well used in the Business English communication activities, and the politeness principle can lead to the success of Business English communication to a certain degree.
