Abstract:

Amy Tan is one of the most outstanding Chinese American writers. The Kitchen God’s Wife is the second one after her first novel The Joy Luck Club. This book is greatly praised by American readers and critics. The western readers are deeply interested in the detail descriptions of old China and the traditional Chinese stories. This thesis mainly analyzes the novel from the feminist perspective, studying the female characters of the novel and the first person narration, looking for the concrete reflection of feminism, in order to highlight the unique feature of Amy Tan’s feminism. Meanwhile, this thesis aims to offer a new way to help readers better understand Amy Tan’s novels.

谭恩美是美国华裔作家的杰出代表之一，《灶神之妻》是她继处女作《喜福会》后的第二部长篇小说，受到了美国读者群和批评界的极高赞誉。尤其是书中关于中国的细节描写以及传统故事引起了西方读者的极大兴趣。本文试图从女性主义的角度深入解读《灶神之妻》，研究小说中的女性角色以及小说中第一人称的写作技巧，寻找文中女性主义的具体体现，解读其中的深刻内涵，以突出谭恩美诠释女性主义的独特，为广大读者理解谭恩美小说提供一个新的渠道。

1.1 Introduction of Amy Tan and The Kitchen God's Wife
Amy Tan is one of the most famous Chinese American writers in the world. Tan was born in California, in 1952, and she grew up in the San Francisco Bay area. Tan graduated from high school in Montreux, Switzerland, and received her master's degrees in linguistics from San José State University. She has been married to Lou DeMattei for the past twenty-two years. They often live in San Francisco and New York.
