摘  要

随着国际贸易的发展，英语商务信函作为商务活动中的交流手段所发挥的作用在国际贸易交流中变得越来越重要。本文在英国语言学家利奇的礼貌原则，美国语言学家格莱斯的合作原则以及业界普遍接受函电中的7C原则的基础上简述了英语商务信函中的语用原则。本篇论文在语用学的合作原则和礼貌原则理论的基础上分析了英语商务信函并对其定义，功能和四种分类；接着又在理论的基础上分析了商务信函的语言特点和四种不同类型（包括竞争类，和谐类，催款和冲突类信函）的英语商务信函的语用特征。最终提出了英语商务信函的写作策略。这篇论文旨在告诉商人怎样正确地写英语商务信函从而进行顺利的商务交际。

Abstract

With the development of international business, as an important means of communication，English business correspondence plays a crucial role in international business communication. Consequently, it is important for people who participate in foreign affairs to have a good knowledge of language features and writing skills about English business correspondence. This thesis briefly discusses the pragmatic principles and the writing principles for English business correspondence based on the British linguist G. N. Leech’s PP and the American linguist Grice’s CP, together with the widely-accepted criteria of a good BC -7C principles. First, it starts from the introduction to the English business correspondence which talks about the definition, nature, classification and functions of English business correspondence. Then it introduces the basic theory of pragmatics---CP and PP, and explains maxims of CP and PP. In the third part of the thesis, it introduces the features of English business correspondence, and explains the maxims of CP and PP embodied in English business correspondence according to the features. And then it discusses the applications of CP and PP in different types of English business correspondence. At last, the writer introduces some writing tactics to help readers write an appropriate English business correspondence. This thesis aims to tell the businessmen how to write English business correspondence properly and make the business communication fulfilled smoothly.
