Pragmatic Analysis and Translation Skills of Long Sentences in English Business Contracts
Abstract
With the deepening of reform and opening up, China is taking more and more active economic activity in the world and improving its economic and trade relationship with many countries. After reaching an agreement by negotiation or correspondence with the relevant parties, most of the transactions end with the complement of a contract to legally establish business relationship. Therefore, translating such contracts is quiet necessary.
There are many studies on English business contracts, which are from the perspective of passive sentences, stylistic features, vocabulary translation, etc. From the perspective of pragmatics, this paper tries to analyze the translation of long sentences in English business contracts on the basis of the concept and stylistic features of international business contracts.
This paper consists of four chapters. The first chapter is introduction to English business contracts, including definition, functions, and linguistic features. The second part mainly discusses three types of long sentences. The next chapter analyzes long sentences with pragmatics. The last chapter illuminates translation of long sentences. This paper discusses the Chinese-English translation of long sentences from pragmatic analysis of business contracts, so as to provide the reader with basic understanding of accurate translation of long sentences for improving the quality of translation text.
