Pragmatic Features of Foreign Company Internal Business English E-mails

摘要

随着经济全球化扩张和科学技术的快速发展，商务英语电子邮件发挥着不容小觑的重要力量。对于一位合格的外企工作人员，掌握正确且熟练的商务英语电子邮件无疑是一项不可或缺的重要技能之一。然而，目前现有的关于外企内部商务英语电子邮件的研究并不是很充分，从安然电子邮件语料库中我挑选了50篇不同商务语境的商务英语电子邮件，并且这些邮件都是由不同性别、不同职位的工作人员所写。该作者重点研究了外企内部商务英语电子邮件写作特点的两个方面，一个是体裁杂糅性中书面语与口语的特点，另一个是性别对于礼貌用语使用的影响。希望通过此次研究能够为英语商务电子邮件用语学习和研究提供参考性指导。

Abstract

Business English e-mail plays an important role in the expansion of global economic and rapid development of electronics and technology. It is an important skill for an employee working in foreign company. However, the existing studies of foreign company internal business English e-mails are not sufficient. The author selected 50 emails in 6 different business contexts from Enron Corporation e-mail corpus. These e-mails are written by staff with different genders and different positions. The author mainly focuses on two features of foreign company internal business English e-mail. One is hybridity of written and oral forms, and the other one is about the gender-specific politeness. The author hopes this study could provide reference for people who will study business English e-mails in the future.
