A Brief Analysis of the Status of Translation Ethics in the Chinese Market

摘要

在我们社会发展飞快的今天，跨文化交际已经与生活密不可分，而翻译也就随之发生改变。然而，翻译作为一种社会行为，往往伴随着种种因人际关系而不得不面临的规约问题，因而不可避免地与规约人际关系的准则——伦理发生关涉。

与此同时，翻译伦理的研究跟发展正在逐步跟进。本文旨在通过调查、分析翻译伦理在译员培训中所起的作用，进而根据中国实际情况而提出可行性意见。首先，文章将结构翻译伦理的主要内容和基本定义。以芬兰学者切斯特曼所提出的翻译伦理的五大模式作为理论基础，对先现行存在的国际各大机构的行业标准与守则进行分析。并整合出翻译伦理在守则中所体现的地方，例如要求译员忠于原文，以异存异。又或者是要求译员应当与时俱进，随时接受新知识的洗礼。同时国内外各大组织在招收译员的时候，明确要求对受训员的个人品行有极高的要求，而这正好体现在翻译伦理中的基本品德准则之上，可见在国际上翻译伦理译员培训中的影响早已非常显而易见。

许多翻译行业的准则和规章制度都建立在翻译伦理的内容基础上，它影响了整个翻译过程，而译员的培训是其中最重要的一环。尽管国内的情况虽然并不如国外明朗，但是国内的情况正在改变当中。在国内高校的译员培养的课程设置中，虽不能直接看到翻译伦理相关的知识普及，但是能看到许多与之相关的课程。译员的素质将直接决定了翻译行业的风气及发展，国内翻译行业的改善，有待进一步的研究和尝试。

Abstract

With the development of cross-cultural activity, translation has become much more important than ever before. At the same time, the study of translation ethics also steps into the golden period. Not only the expert from western countries, but also the local translators do pay attention on the research of translation ethics. 

The article aims at finding out the role the translation ethics performs in the training process of translators and purpose the relative suggestion base on the research. First, the author would deconstruct the content of the translation ethics. By realizing its main ideas and opinions, the author extract the useful information which may be related to the training of the translator. The five modes of the translation ethics, which was put forward by Chesterman, would be the theoretical principle in the whole works. It refers to the rules and principles like being faithful, accurate, and impartial which means the translator should seriously complete their works. The ethics of commitment also require the translator to enrich themselves and keep practicing the professional skill. All in all, the combination of translation and ethics provided more opportunity to explore the method of making the translation into a formal profession.

The translation ethics can maintain the industry order by setting up the rules and the laws. Therefore it can make sense in each steps of the translation. And the most important step of that is the training of the translator, which basically decide the quality of a translator. Although the situation in China is not so positive, but there are people working on it by analyzing the experience of other countries, which would help to maintain the industry order. That’s why so many people would like to pay much on digging out the potential values of the translation ethics.
