On the Aesthetic Representation of the Characters in Yu Xiaodan’s Version of Lolita 

摘要

《洛丽塔》是弗拉基米尔·纳博科夫的著名作品,自引进中国后,一直深受学术界和读者的喜爱。纵观近年对《洛丽塔》汉译本的研究,主要集中在多种译本对比,译者艺术风格,和其他理论比如陌生化、规范论等方面。

本文主要运用中国的翻译美学理论,从《洛丽塔》中主要角色的心理描写,肖像描写和语言描写来研究于晓丹翻译版本的审美再现。本文先简述中国翻译美学理论的发展和现有相关话题的研究,然后针对于晓丹版本《洛丽塔》中审美再现具体手段的运用展开深入分析。

本文第一章主要介绍研究背景,目的,方法和论文结构。第二章为文献综述,主要介绍《洛丽塔》的原著和汉译本,《洛丽塔》翻译方面的相关研究,和翻译美学理论。第三章展开案例研究,主要研究《洛丽塔》于晓丹译本的审美再现,从心理描写,肖像描写,语言描写三方面展开。

通过研究,本文发现文学作品翻译中的审美再现可以通过不同方式和手段实现。同时,审美再现在文学翻译中,对小说主要人物的性格塑造起着重要作用。

Abstract

Lolita is a well-known literary work written by Vladimir Nabokov. It has been enjoying great popularity among the academic world and the public. However, the recent studies on Chinese versions of Lolita mainly focus on the comparison of different versions, the artistic styles of the translators, and other translation theories like norm theory and defamiliarization, etc.

By employing modern Chinese aesthetic translation theory, this thesis probes into the issue on the aesthetic representation in Yu Xiaodan’s Chinese version of Lolita, with focus on the psychological description, portrait description and dialogic description of the main characters, Humbert and Lolita. The thesis begins with a review of the development of Chinese aesthetic translation theory, previous studies on relevant topics, and then carries out a in-depth analysis on different approaches applied in Yu Xiaodan’s Chinese version to realize aesthetic representation.

Chapter one mainly introduces the research background, research objectives, research methodology and thesis structure. Chapter two, literature review, gives a brief introduction to the original and Chinese versions of Lolita. Meanwhile, this chapter also analyzes previous studies on Lolita translation and Chinese aesthetic translation theory. Chapter three conducts a case study that focuses on the aesthetic representation of Yu Xiaodan’s version of Lolita from the perspectives of psychological description, portrait description and dialogic description.

Through study, the thesis finds out that aesthetic representation can be achieved through different specific methods. Also, the thesis states that aesthetic representation is instrumental to reproducing the personalities of the main characters.
