摘要

希斯克利夫是《呼啸山庄》中的主人公。他被公认为《呼啸山庄》中的恶魔。然而希斯克利夫的命运是悲惨的，因为他是一个孤儿,而且在他的生活中他失去了爱情和婚姻。当许多人都在享受生活的时候，希斯克利夫却不得不花尽他的大半生去复仇，只为能够保护自己不再受伤害。本论文将通过分析希斯克利夫的悲惨童年、凯瑟琳对爱情的背叛、希斯克利夫的痛苦复仇以及他的悲惨死亡来体现他在《呼啸山庄》中的悲惨命运。正是维多利亚时期严重的社会歧视以及艾米莉·勃朗特的生活经历造就了这样一位悲剧人物。

Abstract

Heathcliff is the main character of Wuthering Heights. He is widely acknowledged to be the devil in Wuthering Heights. However, Heathcliff’s fate is miserable because of his identity as an orphan and the loss of love and marriage in his life. While many people are enjoying their life, Heathcliff has to spend most of his life on revenge in order to protect himself from being hurt again. This thesis mainly shows Heathcliff’s miserable fate in Wuthering Heights by analyzing Heathcliff’s miserable childhood, Catherine’s betrayal of love, his unbearable pain in the revenge and his miserable death. It is the serious social discrimination in Victorian era and Emily Bronte’s experience that create such a tragic character.
