功能对等理论视角下英语体育新闻标题的翻译研究-以2016年里约奥运会为例_英语论文

On Translation of English Sports News Headlines From the Perspective of Functional Equivalence Theory——Taking the 2016 Rio Olympics as an Example

摘要

英语体育新闻标题作为英语体育新闻的点睛之笔，在用词、构句、拟文等方面都有其独特之处，且蕴含着丰富的背景知识。因此，在翻译过程中，对于英语体育新闻标题的汉译，也有必要进行深入研究。

在2016年里约奥运会召开期间，国内外各大媒体、报纸都对这次体育盛宴进行了大幅地跟踪报道，本文将以里约奥运会相关英语体育新闻标题为源语言文本，并运用奈达的功能对等理论为理论指导，探究体育新闻标题的汉译。

本文主要由五章内容。第一章阐述研究背景和重要性；第二章简述前人在研究英语体育新闻标题汉译时所取得的成果，并指出不足指出；第三章主要论述奈达的功能对等理论，首先介绍他的形式对等和功能对等，然后介绍功能对等的三个主要方面：词汇对等、句法对等和文体对等；第四章着重阐述英语体育新闻标题的汉译策略，首先从英语体育新闻标题的作用入手，继而从词汇、语法和修辞研究英语体育新闻标题的特点，最后将功能对等理论运用于英语体育新闻标题的汉译；第五章分别总结本文的研究成果和不足之处。

本文在总结前人研究成果的基础上，稍作延伸，探索了英语体育新闻标题的独特之处，总结了其在词汇、句法、文体方面的汉译技巧——词汇翻译技巧包括小词、流行词、缩写词以及复合词的翻译；句法翻译技巧主要是以现在时态、过去时态、省略句以及被动形式为主；而文体翻译技巧主要包括几种常见的修辞手法，如比喻、双关、转喻、拟人；在翻译时首先需要确定文本使用的修辞手法，再研究使用对应的中文。通过探究这方面的知识以期能对自身以及其他译者在今后的翻译中有所启迪。

Abstract

English sports news headlines, as a fishing touch, have special characteristics in vocabulary, sentences and stylistic styles. Also, they are sustained by background information. Therefore, in the process of translation, it’s necessary to do further study on E-C translation of English sports news headlines.

During 2016 Rio Olympics, mass media and newspaper agencies at home and abroad did consistent reports of this fabulous sports event. This paper translates some pieces of English sports news headlines in Rio Olympics. Under the theoretical guidance of Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory, the paper aims to study the E-C translation of English sports news headlines. 

There are five chapters in this paper. In chapter one, the author introduces the study background and the importance of the topic. In chapter two, the author briefly states the previous achievements about the topic and its drawbacks. In chapter three, the author mainly elaborates Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory by expounding his Formal Equivalence and Functional Equivalence which contain three dimensions as lexical equivalence, Syntactic Equivalence and Stylistic Equivalence which would be introduced later in this chapter. In chapter four, the author explores the strategies of the E-C translation of English sports news headlines. Starting from the functions of English sports news headlines, then discuss its characteristics according to lexis, grammar and rhetoric, and finally apply functional equivalence to the E-C translation of English sports news headlines. In the last chapter, the author concludes the findings and limitations of this paper.

This paper does a further study based on previous ones. By deepening the study of the characteristics of English sports news headlines and its translation from the perspectives of lexis, syntactic and stylistics. Lexical dimension covers four points: midget words, vogue words, acronyms and shortenings, compounds. Syntactic dimension mainly focuses on grammar, especially the present and past tense, omissions and the passive forms. The last, rhetorical dimension deals with some commonly used devices such as figuration, double-meaning, metonymy and personification. In this kind of translation, one needs to distinguish what the rhetorical device is, and then properly choose the Chinese translation. The author hopes it would be helpful in translation of English sports news in the future.
