Subtitle Translation of Wonder from the Perspective of Functional Equivalence Theory_英语论文

摘要

随着外国电影越来越受到国内人们的青睐，字幕翻译变得越来越重要。优秀的字幕翻译有助于外语观影者更好地理解人物对话和故事情节，让他们获得更好的观片体验。然而, 现今译者的翻译能力和文化知识储备无法达到优秀字幕翻译的要求。此外, 影视字幕翻译的系统研究较少, 导致译者缺乏相对成熟的理论指导。

功能对等理论以接受者反应为核心，强调目的语观众的反应与原语观众反应的对等，指出翻译的任务和本质是用最近似的自然对等值再现原语信息。鉴于当前字幕翻译研究出现的问题，本文选取美国电影《奇迹男孩》为研究对象，根据字幕翻译的特点，从功能对等的词汇对等、句法对等和文化对等的视角出发，分析《奇迹男孩》中的字幕翻译，总结字幕翻译中所用到的各种策略和技巧，并揭示功能对等理论对影视字幕翻译所起的指导性作用。

Abstract

With the high popularity of foreign films in China, subtitle translation has become increasingly important. Excellent subtitle translation can help the viewers understand film conversations and plots so as to give them a better viewing experience. However, the translators’ translation ability and cultural knowledge can not be up to the standard of excellent subtitle translation. In addition, there are few systematic researches on subtitle translation of films and televisions, which leads to a lack of relatively mature theoretical guidance for translators.

Taking the response of the recipients as a core, the theory of Functional Equivalence emphasizes the equivalence between the response of the target language audiences and the response of the original audiences and points out that the task and essence of translation is to reproduce the primitive information by the nearest nature equivalent. In view of the problems arising from the current research on subtitle translation, this paper selects the American film Wonder as the research material. According to the characteristics of subtitle translation, this paper analyzes the subtitle translation of Wonder from the perspective of lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence and cultural equivalence and summarizes the strategies and techniques used as well. 

Finally, this paper points out that the Functional Equivalence Theory can play a guiding role in the subtitle translation of film and television.
