An Analysis of C-E Prose Translation from Perspective of Cohesion Theory ---- a Case Study of Zhang Peiji’s Selected Modern Chinese Essays_英语论文

摘要

衔接是实现语篇连贯的一种重要手段，在翻译研究中占有举足轻重的地位。根据韩礼德和哈桑的划分，衔接手段分为语法衔接和词汇衔接。英汉两种语言在衔接手段上既有相似之处，也存在差异，所以衔接手段在不同的语言和语篇中的具体的运用方式也不一样。由于散文这种文学体裁很独特，所以汉英散文翻译中的衔接问题很少有人涉猎，因此本文要填充这一空白。

本文主要研究汉英散文翻译中的衔接问题，以张培基先生的《英译中国当代散文选一》作为研究对象，从语法衔接手段和词汇衔接手段两方面分析原文和译文衔接手段的差异，进而归纳总结出张培基先生处理这类问题的翻译策略。以期为学生英汉散文翻译中处理衔接问题提供一些方法，同时也为老师教学提供一些指导。

Abstract

Cohesion is an important method to create a coherent text, and it is vital in the field of translation. Halliday and Hasan think grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion comprise cohesion. There are similarities as well as differences between Chinese and English in terms of cohesion. As a result, cohesion varies in different languages and texts. Given prose serving as an unique literary type, few scholars put much emphasis on the study of cohesion in Chinese-English prose translation. Consequently, this thesis will attempt to make contributions in this aspect.

This thesis mainly focus on the cohesion theory in the Chinese-English prose translation, which takes Zhang Peiji’s Selected Modern Chinese Essays one as a case. We compare the original prose with Zhang Peiji’s translation from the perspective of grammatical and lexical cohesion so that we can draw a conclusion about the translation strategies adopted by Mr. Zhang to address these differences.We are supposed to find some useful cohesion strategies to guide both teachers and students to learn Chinese-English prose translation.
