A Cognitive Approach to “Hand”

摘要

认知语言学在新的哲学观和认知观，关于世界的经验以及人们观察世界并对其概念化的基础上研究语言。语言学习是一个积极的心理过程。然而，在英语词汇教学中，学生们经常会遇到各种各样的词汇学习问题。与此同时， 老师们花大量时间在词汇教学上，但是结果却事倍功半。

将认知语言学理论运用到实际词汇教学中，会帮助提高词汇学习和记忆, 从而提高词汇教学的质量和效率。

作者以“手”为例，分析隐喻，暗喻，原型理论以及相似性四个方面的认知语言学理论。

Abstract

Cognitive linguistics studies language on the basis of the new philosophy and cognitive view, experience of the world and conceptualization of the world that people observe. Language learning is an active mental process. However, in English vocabulary learning and teaching, learners often meet various problems. At the same time, teachers spend a lot of time on vocabulary teaching, but get half the results with twice the effort. 

Applying the theories of cognitive linguistics helps vocabulary learning and memorizing, thus, it can be able to improve quality and efficiency of vocabulary teaching and learning.

The paper will take “hand” for example, and analyze the following four theories of cognitive linguistics: metaphor, metonymy, prototype theory and iconicity.
