关联理论视角下话语标记语“I mean”的语用功能解读—以美剧《绯闻女孩》为例

A Study of Pragmatic Functions of the Discourse Marker “I mean” from the Perspective of Relevance Theory in Gossip Girl

摘要

作为一种常见的语言现象,话语标记语在真正口语交际中对促进交际者双方有效交流起着不可或缺的作用。随着语用学的发展,越来越多的语言学家和学者关注话语标记语的研究并且贡献了相当可观的学术研究成果。到目前为止,主要有四种相关的研究方法,其中一种是由Blakemore从关联论的视角提出的认知-语用法。她认为,作为一种由说话者提供的明示信息,话语标记语可以帮助听话者推断说话者的交际意图并且以最小的努力找到最佳关联。基于先前的研究,本文以《绯闻女孩》里的话语标记语I mean为实例,从关联论的视角分析其语用功能。

Abstract

As universal language phenomenon, discourse marker (DM) plays an indispensable role in the promotion of the communicators’ mutual effective exchange in actual verbal communication. With the development of pragmatics, an increasing number of linguists and scholars have more concentration on studying discourse marker and have contributed numerous researches to academia. Up till now, there are mainly four approaches of studies on discourse markers, among which there is an approach called cognitive-pragmatic approach put forward by Blakemore (1987) from the perspective of Relevance Theory. She deems that, as a kind of ostensive information provided by the speaker, discourse marker can assist the hearer to infer the speaker’s communicative intention and find the optimal relevance at the cost of the least processing effort. Based on the previous studies, this thesis takes the discourse marker I mean in Gossip Girl as an example and analyzes its pragmatic functions from the perspective of Relevance Theory.
