On E-C Translation of Business News Headlines from the Perspective of Skopos Theory

摘要

中国和西方文化经济交流日益发展,人们越来越关注世界经济和商业形势。商业新闻则是获取国外经济和金融信息的重要媒体。然而面对多姿多彩的新闻报道,人们经常会先浏览新闻标题再决定是否继续阅读整个新闻。一条好的标题就是一则简短的新闻,它浓缩了精华之处,并能引起读者兴趣。这使得英语商业新闻标题的汉译问题受到越来越多的关注,能否准确传达英语商业新闻标题的信息也成为翻译人员的一大考验。

本文拟从目的论角度出发,构造商业新闻标题翻译的理论框架,分析影响商业新闻标题翻译实践的文化、信息角度的关键因素,阐述目的论所主张目的原则、连贯性原则、忠实性原则之于商业新闻标题英汉翻译实践的作用方法,并结合选自主流商业新闻媒体的案例提出广为使用的翻译技巧。本文希望商业新闻标题的翻译能迎来更多关注和更多成果。

Abstract

With the growing cultural and economic exchanges between China and the West, people are increasingly concerned about the world economic and commercial situation. Business news is an important medium to obtain economic and financial information from abroad. However, in modern life, faced with a wide variety of news reports, people tend to first browse the news headlines and decide whether to continue. A good headline is a brief news, which is the essence and the hook. That makes Chinese translation of English business news headlines receive more and more attention. Accurate delivery of information included in English business news headlines pose a challenge for translators.

We are going to build a theoretical framework of business news headlines translation by reference to Skopos Theory, in which we will find factors affecting business news headlines translation like cultural distinction and information transmitting, and discuss the application of the skopos rule, the coherence rule, and the fidelity rule. Some examples extracted from popular news media are offered to explain the application of some widely used translation strategies. We hope that more attention will be paid to business news headlines translation and more achievements can be made.
