An Analysis Of C-E Translation For International Publicity Of Historical And Cultural Heritage: A Case Study Of Nanjing Museum

摘要

作为中华民族灿烂文化的载体,历史文化遗产在“走出去”文化战略中发挥着越来越重要的作用,而外宣翻译的质量则直接影响了这一作用发挥的效果。本文以南京博物院为例,结合外宣翻译特点难点,重点实地考察了历史馆和特展馆,对馆内文物进行随机拍照取样,进一步整理后共得文物标牌样本90个,介绍性文字说明24份。从宏观结合微观的角度,举例分析了样本中所采用的翻译方法和翻译技巧,并列出了南京博物院外宣翻译存在的几个重大问题;从微观的角度,详细分析整理了其中的翻译错误。最后,提出了几个针对性的建议,以能更好地提高南京博物院外宣翻译的质量。

Abstract

As the carrier of long history and brilliant culture of Chinese nation, historical and cultural heritages play a more and more significant role in going-out cultural strategy, which directly depends on the quality of C-E translation for international publicity. This paper takes Nanjing Museum as an example and the study focuses on the Gallery of History and Gallery of Temporary Exhibition. Through field investigation, taking photos and collecting paper materials, we draw 90 scutcheon samples of historical and cultural relics and 24 samples of introduction materials at random in the proportion of all samples in different galleries and exhibitions. From macroscopic perspective with microcosmic analysis, this paper analyzes translation methods and translation techniques implied in samples of C-E translation for international publicity in Nanjing Museum, and then puts forward several major problems in C-E translation materials of international publicity. In the microscopic view, this paper does a detailed analysis and reorganization of translation errors found in the samples with a table and major examples. In the end, this paper comes up with corresponding suggestions for a higher quality of C-E translation for international publicity in Nanjing Museum.
