A  Cultural Study on Olympian Goddess

摘要

神话是一种特殊的文化现象，而希腊神话作为西方文明的发端，其影响十分广泛，在西方乃至世界都占有极其重要地位。在奥林匹亚山的十二主神当中，女神占了六位。作为文化的产物，这些女神故事反映了希腊人民对于世界的探寻与了解。因此，她们也在外貌、人格化、反叛精神和社会地位上有所相似，对这些相似点的研究能帮助英语学习者进一步了解希腊罗马神话中的文化起源，也加强了他们跨文化交流的能力。

Abstract

Myth is a special cultural phenomenon, while Greco-Roman mythology, as the origin of Western civilization, plays an extremely important role in the western world and even the whole world. In Greco-Roman mythology, there are six goddesses among the twelve major Olympian gods. Those goddesses, as the products of its unique culture, reflect ancient Greco-Roman people’s reasoning and understanding of the world. Therefore, the images of them share a number of common features in the aspects of appearance, personification, rebellion spirit and social status. A cultural study on the above common features of the goddesses could help English learners further their understanding on the birth culture of Greco-Roman mythology; hence, reinforce their ability of cross-culture communication.
